Many blood tests and other investigations can be done at the GP practice. After you’ve had a test done, we’ll make sure you get the results as soon as we get them within a few days. We can do all sorts of tests right here at our practice, including bloods, urine, stool, cervical smears, ECGs, scans and X-rays. They need to meet local NHS guidelines to be accepted. Unfortunately, we cannot refer for MRI scan or CT Scans, but may be able to refer to a specialist if you meet NHS criteria.

Who

We carry out tests based on what your doctor thinks you need. We can only book a blood or other tests based on clinical need and have to follow national NHS guidelines. We usual do this if you are unwell and there is a clinical need or if you need annual tests for a chronic condition.

Tests sometimes need to be repeated but that will again depend on clinical need and NHS guidelines.

We also carry out routine screening tests such as cervical smears, but if you’re eligible, we’ll let you know.

If you would think you need a test, please do contact us by logging into your account on the NHS App and send us a message.

How

Most of the time, you’ll have your test done right here at our clinic. But if not, we can help you arrange it elsewhere. For kids under 14, blood tests happen at a special clinic, and if you can’t come to us, we can even do it at your home!

Scans and X-rays, though, happen at the hospital, and it might take a few weeks to get an appointment. But don’t worry, we’ll make sure you’re taken care of.

We will usually send you a text when we get your results or may call. Do check in if you haven’t heard. You can see your results by logging into your NHS App account. If you want advice, you can message us through the app too.

It’s handy to know that blood and urine tests are collected around 3pm weekdays and noon on Saturday and Sunday, so we need to have it all done by then.

Not everyone needs these tests all the time, but some people, like those with hypothyroid need to book a thyroid function blood tests and those with diabetes need to have a HbA1c blood test. We only do these tests if they’re needed, following the NHS rules. When you’ve got the go ahead, we will contact you or you can call or message on the NHS App and we’ll book your blood test.

Your GP might tell you if it’s a fasting or non-fasting test. If it’s a fasting one, it means you need to hold off on eating for 12 hours before the test. So, it’s a good idea to schedule it in the morning when you’re just waking up!

Getting your blood test results

After your test is approved, make sure your contact details are up to date and tell us your favourite pharmacy. That way, we can text you your results and even send any meds you might need straight to your pharmacy. You can also check your results online.
